Resume for Sorority Recruitment: Format and Example
A sorority resume is a recruitment document, not a job application, so it leads with GPA, leadership, campus involvement and service hours, and keeps work experience to a line or two. Nobody is hiring you, so nothing on the page should read like an employment history. Checklist, two examples and a blank template below.

Why a sorority resume is not a job resume
The reader is a chapter member or an alumna, not a hiring manager. They are not evaluating whether you can do a job, they are trying to picture you in the house.
That changes the page. A job resume is organized around employers, with duty bullets and a professional summary. A recruitment resume is organized around who you are: what you study, what you lead, what you spend your time on, and what you give back to. Work experience is one line, not a section.
The most common mistake is taking a career-center resume, changing the header, and sending it. The second is padding the involvement list with one-off activities, which is easy to spot next to something you stuck with for three years.
Applying for internships and campus jobs too? That is a different document, and the college student resume guide covers it. Keep two files.
The sorority recruitment resume checklist
Read the last column against the resume you have open right now.
| Section | What goes in it | Yours is wrong if |
|---|---|---|
| Education and GPA | University, expected graduation year, GPA labeled weighted or unweighted, high school if you are a freshman | There is no GPA anywhere on the page |
| Leadership | Positions held, with what you were responsible for and how many people it involved | It lists titles with nothing about what the role actually was |
| Involvement | Clubs, teams, band, theater, student government, honor societies, with years | One-week activities pad the list and the multi-year ones are buried |
| Philanthropy | Organization, what you did, how long you stayed, hours only if you tracked them | Service is missing, which is the section chapters look hardest at |
| Work | One short line per job, no duty bullets | Employment history is written like a job application and takes half the page |
| Interests | A few real, specific things you can talk about in a recruitment conversation | It says "reading, music, travel" and gives a member nothing to ask about |
| Length | One page, clean, easy to skim in under a minute | Two pages, or a heavy design that fights the reading |
One page, clean, exported as a PDF. No signup needed to start.
The section order that works, and why
Education, honors, leadership, involvement, service, then a short work line. That matches what a chapter reads for, in the order they read for it. Three things decide whether the order works:
- GPA gets labeled. Freshmen use the high school number and say whether it is weighted or unweighted, because the two are not comparable. After one college semester, lead with the college GPA.
- Leadership needs scale, not just a title. One line under each position: running a 40 member club, organizing an event for 300 people. Scale turns a title into information.
- Service is the section chapters read hardest, since philanthropy is core to chapter life. Two years with one organization beats a large one-weekend total.
Interests are doing real work too. "Reading, music and travel" gives a member nothing to ask about, while "competitive fiddle, sourdough, and I have run the same 5K route since ninth grade" gives them three openings. One page, always.

What varies by campus, and where to check
Recruitment rules are set by each campus Panhellenic council and each chapter. Your recruitment packet or your council's website is the source of truth, not a guide on the internet, including this one.
- Whether a resume is used at all. Some campuses collect them with registration, some pass them to chapters with recommendation materials, some have dropped them.
- Photos. Some councils include one with recommendation materials, some ask you not to. When the guidance is silent, leave it off.
- Recommendation letters. Still used at some schools, dropped at others. Where used, the alumna writing yours will ask for the resume.
- Grades. Many campuses request an official transcript separately, so make sure the GPA on your resume matches it exactly.
- Deadlines. Registration and recommendation deadlines can fall months before recruitment week. Check the date first, then write.
One thing does not vary. Everything on the page has to be true, because you will be asked about it in a conversation.
Build yours
- Step 1, check your council's packet first. Whether a resume is used, whether a photo goes with it, what the deadlines are. Five minutes here saves you writing the wrong document.
- Step 2, write down every year you spent on something. Clubs, teams, service, jobs, with years and any hours you tracked. The dates matter as much as the names.
- Step 3, lay it out in the builder. It handles the one-page, single-column formatting and exports a clean PDF in about five minutes. No signup needed.
- Step 4, read it out loud once. Every line should be something you can talk about happily for a minute. If a line makes you hesitate, cut it, because recruitment conversations run straight off this page.
