Every posting wants 1 to 2 years and you have zero
You fix it by moving things, not by inventing anything. You have hundreds of supervised clinical hours, a capstone, and a license that is either in hand or dated. None of that fits a standard work-history layout, which is why so many new grad resumes come out looking empty.
So the layout changes. Licensure and NCLEX status move to the top, because that is the first thing a nurse recruiter checks. Clinical rotations move into the slot where jobs would normally sit, each one dated and detailed like a job. Your capstone gets its own heading. Anything you did before nursing school drops to the bottom.

What a nurse recruiter screens a new grad resume for
Seven things, in roughly this order. Open your draft and check each one.

How to write one rotation so it reads like a job
Five facts, then two bullets. The five facts are the hospital, the unit with its bed count, the hours, the dates, and your patients per shift. The two bullets are what you performed and one specific thing you can be asked about in an interview.
- Weak: Med-surg clinical, spring semester.
- Strong: Buckeye Regional Hospital, Telemetry, 30 beds, 180 hours, 01/2026 to 04/2026. Carried 4 patients per shift under a preceptor: assessments, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, IV maintenance and bedside report at every handoff.
Order rotations by the unit you want, not by date, so telemetry goes first if telemetry is the job. Give the capstone its own heading, and say what your patient load was by the end and how much your preceptor was still doing.
Example 1: new grad RN who worked as a tech during school
NCLEX passed, license in hand, two years as a patient care technician on the floor she is applying to. This is the stronger of the two starting positions.

Example 2: new grad RN with no healthcare job before this
NCLEX scheduled, license applied for, and four years of retail as the only paid work. The rotations do more of the lifting, and the retail job stays because it shows responsibility rather than nursing skill.
